Your dog is your best friend and a member of the family. When you head out and about in Houston, it only makes sense that they would tag along, too. Isn’t that what pet ownership is all about? But while there are many stores out there that welcome fur pups with open arms, many others do not.

Knowing where you are both welcomed allows you to avoid any awkward moments, making your outings a little more enjoyable. To help you get started, we’ve put together a list of 5 pet-friendly stores in Houston, TX. Check them out!

  1. Urban Harvest Farmers Market

Make Saturdays special with a trip to the Urban Harvest Farmers Market. Farmers and producers within 180 miles of the city of Houston come together to sell fresh, local produce, seafood, meats, baked goods, artisan crafts, and so much more. This is an outdoor market and your pooch is very welcome.

Why not take your dog to a bakery that is dedicated to serving them? And with locations in The Heights and Rice Village, it’s convenient, too. The laid-back atmosphere offers ice-cold drinks, delicious eats, and the Houston Texans playing on the big screen.

  1. Frascone Winery

What better way to spend an afternoon than at a winery with your best fur friend? And Frascone Winery is where it’s at. They have a light food menu, wine to taste, and a lovely area to explore. A sophisticated pooch is always welcome.

Is Your Dog Ready for Stores in Houston?

It is always a good idea to make sure your pup is ready to head out shopping with you. While they may be well-behaved at home, walking into a store or other shared space is an entirely new experience. Here they will encounter new sights, smells, and sounds that may lead to a reaction of excitement, anxiety, or nervousness. Or, your dog may not be phased at all. Either way, consider the following:

  • While in busy shopping areas, keep small dogs in a carrier, sling, or another type of safety enclosure. This will not only offer them feelings of security, but it will keep them safe, too.
  • Always, always keep a leash on your pup. Unless otherwise stated, most stores that allow you to bring your dog will require a leash at all times.
  • Consider investing in a good harness. It is more comfortable for your pup and gives you better control, too.
  • Practice taking your dog around crowds. Don’t take your pup to the store for the first time and assume all will flow smoothly. Remember this is a new experience.

Scoop Soldiers is a pet waste removal service in and around the Houston, TX area. After a day visiting pet-friendly stores with your pup, why not come home to a clean, fresh, and sanitized lawn?
